Hi there, my name is Bárbara, and I'm a Director of Marketing and Communications with a passion for using content to drive positive change. I truly believe that the power of storytelling can build communities, spread ideas, and engage people in a meaningful way, which is why I'm dedicated to this work.

Currently, I'm focused on delivering comprehensive marketing and communication support to a diverse range of entities including corporate, nonprofit, government, and cross-sector groups.

I have a proven track record of crafting compelling narratives that resonate with audiences and drive engagement. In my prior work,I lead Pacific Community Ventures' efforts to enhance its narrative power in anti-oppression work by developing and implementing a new communications and marketing strategy based on the values of decolonizing, restoring, and democratizing. I also previously served as an interim member of Heluna Health's senior leadership team, where I led the communications, marketing, and public relations strategy for a 400M public health management social enterprise.

My background is in public health, with a focus on communication and addressing health disparities in underserved/ underempowered communities. I've worked for various health-focused non-profits, including Sea Mar Community Health Centers and the San Diego Medical Society Foundation, where I've gained valuable experience in strategic marketing and communications planning.

Growing up between San Diego and Tijuana, I was exposed to two very distinct worlds that were both fascinating and challenging in their own ways. This experience ignited my interest in public health, particularly with an emphasis on addressing the health disparities in our communities. I hold a BS in Gerontology and Human Biology from San Diego State University and a certificate in Health Communications from Boston University, and am dedicated to using my knowledge and experience to advocate for equity and to ensure that everyone has access to the resources they need to live healthy, fulfilling lives, regardless of their background.

In my free time, I enjoy traveling, exploring resilience expressed through art forms, and advocating for health equity. I'm always on the lookout for exciting projects and freelance opportunities, so feel free to reach out if you're interested in collaborating or grabbing a cup of coffee!
